Hm, I’ve never seen it written out as “black and Indigenous people of color.” I’ve only ever seen it as some (intended) extended replacement for “PoC,” as in “all people of color but especially black and Native American people,” including the BIPoC Project which defines it as “black, indigenous and people of color.” According to the New York Time, the first recorded used of “BIPoC” is this tweet, and the original poster has the acronym in their bio as “black, indigenous and people of color” as well.

So… what is your source for this alternative definition?

“Indigenous people of color” doesn’t really mean anything on its own anyway, because all people of color are indigenous to somewhere. Why not say black and Native American if we’re just talking about those two groups? I don’t see a legitimate use for this acronym the way you’re describing it, unfortunately. I will say I appreciate the fact you gave about Natives in your state, though. very interesting.
